Los Angeles County Jail Roster
The official current jail search is the LASD Inmate Information Center. It is free and public, but it is not a bulk-download roster. The user must enter both last name and first name, complete reCAPTCHA, and search one person at a time. LASD posts a direct warning that inmate records will not be available for bookings that occurred within the last 2 hours. For urgent current-custody questions or help with location, LASD lists inmate information at (213) 473-6100.
The Los Angeles County jail roster covers people in LASD custody, including downtown Men's Central Jail, Twin Towers, the Inmate Reception Center processing path, Century Regional Detention Facility, Pitchess facilities, North County Correctional Facility, and medical jail wards. It does not cover a sentenced person already transferred to the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, a federal prisoner in BOP custody, or an ICE detainee after transfer to immigration custody. VINELink is useful for custody or release notification, but it is not a complete roster profile. No LASD app-only roster was confirmed in the research.
The manifest image from the LASD Inmate Information Center shows the required fields and custody phone numbers.
The form itself shows why name accuracy matters: both first and last name are required before the Los Angeles County inmate records search can run.
Use Los Angeles County Inmate Search
Start with the current-custody path when the person may be in a Los Angeles County jail today. Use the exact name if known. Middle name and date of birth can help narrow common names, but they do not replace the required first and last name. If a person was booked at a station minutes ago, the 2-hour LASD delay can explain why no result appears yet.
- Open the LASD IIC at app5.lasd.org/iic and read the custody phone and medical command center notices.
- Enter Last Name and First Name. Add Middle Name or Date of Birth if needed for a common name.
- Complete the reCAPTCHA. LASD says it is used to prevent automated attacks and commercial exploitation of data.
- Select Search. Use Clear to reset the name fields and date field.
- If the arrest is too new, call (213) 473-6100 or check the Booking Log when the station and time window are known.
- If the person was sentenced or transferred, use CDCR, BOP, or ICE instead of the county jail roster.
Los Angeles County Roster Fields
The LASD IIC search fields are narrow by design. The public form is not a broad demographic search, and it does not let users browse a whole facility list by housing unit. The required fields and reCAPTCHA are the key limits a reader will face before any inmate profile can be opened.
| Field Label | Type | Required | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Last Name | Text | Yes | Maximum length 50; validation says Last Name is required. |
| First Name | Text | Yes | Maximum length 50; validation says First Name is required. |
| Middle Name | Text | No | Optional name-narrowing field with maximum length 50. |
| Date of Birth | Date field | No | Optional field with maximum length 12 and date picker behavior. |
| reCAPTCHA | Challenge | Yes | Required before search results can be retrieved. |
| Search / Clear | Action buttons | Search required | Search submits the form; Clear resets entered fields. |
Los Angeles County Booking Log
The LASD Booking Log is a separate official tool for recent station bookings. It is useful when the user knows where and when the booking happened, especially when a current inmate search is too early or uncertain. It is not the same as IIC, and it should not be described as a jail-wide mugshot gallery. The Booking Log asks for a station, required date range, optional start and end times, and reCAPTCHA. Its datepicker is limited to the last 7 days.
| Booking Log field | Requirement | Use note |
|---|---|---|
| Station | Required | Dropdown includes stations such as Century, Compton, Lancaster, Palmdale, West Hollywood, Pico Rivera, and others. |
| Date From / Date To | Required | Limited to the last 7 days, and start date cannot be after end date. |
| Time range | Optional | Uses HH:mm format; start time must be before end time when both are entered. |
| reCAPTCHA | Required | Blank reCAPTCHA produces an error. |
The manifest image from the LASD Booking Log shows the station, date, and time filters used for recent booking searches.
Use that tool for recent station booking events, then use IIC or the phone line to confirm current jail location.
Los Angeles County Inmate Profile
Automated research could not open a live LASD IIC inmate profile because reCAPTCHA blocks automated access. The reliable field inventory therefore comes from LASD records rules, RIB proof-letter contents, mail rules, and the IIC's stated purpose. Treat unconfirmed profile fields as possible, not guaranteed. Court disposition is expressly outside LASD's records function.
| Field | What It Shows |
|---|---|
| Name | The name used in the search or at arrest. |
| Booking number | Confirmed through mail rules and RIB proof letters; needed for inmate mail. |
| Date of arrest | Included in RIB proof-of-incarceration or release letters. |
| Charges | RIB letters can include charges, but LASD does not provide final court disposition. |
| Facility or location | IIC and the custody phone line help identify where the inmate is held. |
| Release information | May appear in proof letters when applicable. |
| Mugshot | Public IIC display was not manually confirmed; bail-agent access is limited by Penal Code 11105.6. |
County State Federal Inmate Records
Many failed Los Angeles County inmate records searches happen because the wrong system is being searched. LASD covers county jail custody. CDCR covers sentenced state prisoners. BOP covers federal inmates from 1982 to present. ICE ODLS covers people detained by ICE, which is not the same as every person with an immigration hold in county jail. A Los Angeles County arrest can start in LASD custody and later move to a court, CDCR, BOP, or ICE path.
| Custody status | Where to look | What it covers |
|---|---|---|
| Current county jail | LASD IIC | People in LASD custody, including MCJ, TTCF, CRDF, Pitchess, NCCF, and related custody units. |
| Recent station booking | LASD Booking Log | Station/date/time booking events within the portal's recent 7-day window. |
| Sentenced state prisoner | CDCR CIRIS | State prison custody by name or CDCR number, with commitment county and current location fields. |
| Federal prisoner | BOP Inmate Locator | Federal inmates incarcerated from 1982 to present. |
| ICE detainee | ICE ODLS | Immigration detention, searched by A-number/country or biographical data. |
Older Los Angeles County Records
If the online roster no longer shows the person, use LASD records routing rather than guessing from unofficial databases. The LASD Record Requests page separates law-enforcement related records, custody/jail CPRA requests, non-custody CPRA requests, traffic or custody video, and other channels. The RIB FAQ says proof of release or incarceration requests can be started by calling (562) 345-4441 and scheduling in-person pickup after valid ID. Mail requests can go to Records and Identification Bureau, Attention: Records Inquiry Non-Law Enforcement Section, 12440 East Imperial Highway, Suite 120, Norwalk, CA 90650.
A proof letter can include name at the time of arrest, booking number, charges, date of arrest, and release information. LASD may require ID, notarized authorization for representatives, and fees. Drop-off requests were not accepted in the inspected FAQ. Final disposition, court dates, and the outcome of charges must come from Los Angeles Superior Court, not RIB.
Los Angeles County Jail Facilities
LASD operates a distributed custody system. Men's Central Jail is the primary public-facing jail facility, but the county jail population is split across downtown Los Angeles, Lynwood, Castaic, and medical custody. The facility list also includes a state prison and federal facilities physically in or serving Los Angeles County, which use separate locators.

Los Angeles County Booking Process
Booking can start at an LASD station, municipal police agency, CRDF reception for women, or the Inmate Reception Center for male prisoners. IRC is the records and processing backend for the downtown custody complex. LASD policy gives IRC responsibility for booking and release of male prisoners, male booking and commitment records, court and other-agency availability, property and clothing, inmate trust and bail/fine accounts, warrants and detainers, mail routing, daily counts, classification, Work Release, Weekender Programs, and field booking teams.
The custody path is practical: arrest, transport, identification, booking record, fingerprints and photo where applicable, property inventory, medical and mental-health screening, classification, warrant or detainer review, bail/fine account setup, housing assignment, and court movement. IIC may lag by at least 2 hours. The Booking Log may help for recent station events. Court records may not exist until the prosecutor files formal charges.
Los Angeles County Visit Rules
LASD links the visit scheduling portal and IVVS advisement from its custody resources. Public visiting guidelines differ by jail facility, and a person with visit status "N" cannot receive visits at that time because of classification, discipline, security, temporary housing, or other reasons. Former state prisoners, people on parole, and people on probation must receive Unit Commander approval before visiting any county jail inmate, and LASD says approval can take up to one month.
| Visit topic | Los Angeles County detail |
|---|---|
| Scheduling | Use visit.lasd.org and check the IVVS advisement before arrival. |
| Facility schedule | Schedules differ by jail, so check the facility-specific visit status. |
| Visit status N | No visits due to classification, discipline, security, or related custody reasons. |
| Former prisoners, parole, probation | Unit Commander clearance required; Legal Unit status line is (213) 974-0103. |
| ID | Bring valid government photo identification and verify current requirements through LASD. |
Mail Money and Contact
Most LASD inmate mail uses the central address format: inmate name and booking number, PO Box 86164, Terminal Annex, Los Angeles, CA 90086-0164. Female inmates at CRDF use Century Regional Detention Facility, 11705 S. Alameda Street, Lynwood, CA 90262. Mail must be free of debris, illegal substances, perfume, powders, lipstick, dried liquids, and other prohibited matter. Books, periodicals, and publications that are returned may be appealed through the custody portal complaint process within 15 days of notice.
LASD IIC states that effective February 15, 2015, LASD no longer accepts online deposits for inmates. IRC maintains inmate trust and bail/fine accounts. LASD resources link Access Securepak or Access Catalog for care packages and GTL/ViaPath for phone accounts. Confirm custody location and eligibility before sending mail, buying a package, or scheduling a visit because temporary housing, release, transfer, or visit status can change the right action.
Note: Confirm custody through LASD before sending money, mail, or visit requests because transfers and releases can happen quickly.
