Pitchess North Jail Overview
Pitchess Detention Center North Facility is operated by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department as an Adult Type II jail for male inmates. The research describes four modules, each with four dorms and eight disciplinary housing cells at E-Row in a DPH inspection context. That setup makes North different from the East Facility, which had very low average use in 2024, and from North County Correctional Facility, which is the large correctional facility at the end of the Pitchess address sequence.
North is a county jail, so the right search channel is LASD IIC. Los Angeles County inmates held here may be pretrial detainees, county-sentenced inmates, or people moving through the county custody process. A sentenced person transferred to the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation will move out of the LASD roster and into CDCR CIRIS. A federal defendant or BOP prisoner belongs in a federal locator. ICE detainees are searched separately through ODLS after ICE custody begins.
Pitchess North Capacity
The LASD 2024 Custody Division Population Year End Review listed Pitchess North with a BSCC rated capacity of 830 and a 2024 yearly facility ADIP of 1,196. That placed North 366 above BSCC capacity, or 44 percent over, in the rated-capacity table. The report should be read as an annual average and capacity measure, not as a live current headcount.
Inspection material in the research gave a separate context for North, describing a maximum of 1,888 and a typical daily population around 1,200 to 1,300 in that inspection period. The 2024 LASD report also showed the North security mix as low 112, medium 936, and high 148, for a total of 1,196 in the security-level table. Those figures support a facility-specific page because North carried a much heavier population load than East Facility in the same complex.
| Capacity Measure | Pitchess North Detail |
|---|---|
| Rated-capacity result | 366 above capacity, 44 percent over |
| Security mix | Low 112, medium 936, high 148 in 2024 security-level table |

Pitchess North Roster Search
For Pitchess Detention Center North Facility, use the LASD Inmate Information Center. The portal asks for last name and first name, permits middle name and date of birth, and requires reCAPTCHA. LASD warns that bookings from the last 2 hours may not yet be available. For urgent location help, use the inmate information number in the contact card.
- Open the LASD Inmate Information Center and choose the inmate search form.
- Enter both required name fields. Use date of birth when a common Los Angeles County name produces several matches.
- Review the listed location carefully. Pitchess North is distinct from Pitchess East, Pitchess South, and NCCF.
- If LASD does not show the person and sentencing has occurred, check CDCR CIRIS. For federal custody, use the BOP locator.
The LASD Booking Log can also help for recent LASD station bookings within the last seven days, but it searches by station and date range. It is not the same tool as IIC and should not be treated as a facility roster for Pitchess North.
Pitchess North Contact
North is the second facility in the Pitchess Old Road sequence after East. Use the inmate information line for custody location, current housing, and visit-status questions. Medical issues that require immediate attention should be routed to the LASD medical command center listed by IIC.

Pitchess North Visits
LASD requires visitors to use the official visit scheduling path rather than relying on a fixed countywide hours chart. The LASD visit portal and IVVS advisement are the correct sources for current scheduling. LASD FAQ material says each jail has its own public visiting guidance, and it warns that a visit may be blocked by classification, discipline, security, temporary housing, or existing scheduled visits.
| Topic | What to Check Before a Pitchess North Visit |
|---|---|
| Schedule | Use the LASD portal and select the current facility schedule. |
| Visit status | Status "N" means the inmate is not able to receive visits at that time. |
| Visitor ID | Bring valid government photo identification and verify current portal requirements. |
| Probation, parole, state prison history | Unit Commander approval is required before visiting. |
| Clearance phone | Legal Unit: (213) 974-0103. |
Pitchess North Mail Money
Mail for most Los Angeles County jail inmates uses the LASD central inmate mail address. The mail must include the inmate name and booking number. Sending mail to the physical Pitchess North address can delay or misroute it when LASD rules call for the Terminal Annex box. LASD mail regulations also allow return of mail or parcels that violate custody rules.
| Service | LASD Rule or Channel |
|---|---|
| Inmate Name, Booking Number, PO Box 86164, Terminal Annex, Los Angeles, CA 90086-0164 | |
| Commissary packages | Access Catalog appears in LASD resources for care packages. |
| Money deposits | LASD IIC states online deposits have not been accepted since February 15, 2015. |
| Phone accounts | GTL/ViaPath links appear in LASD FAQ material for family and friends phone accounts. |
Pitchess North Classification
New Los Angeles County bookings are processed through custody intake before assignment to a facility such as Pitchess North. For male prisoners, the Inmate Reception Center handles booking and release records, property, mail routing, bail and fine accounts, warrants and detainers, and classification. Classification is the jail decision about security level, housing needs, and facility placement. A result showing Pitchess North reflects that county-custody assignment, not a final court sentence.
North is also part of the northern JMET coverage described in the research. LASD has two North Jail Mental Evaluation Teams for Pitchess facilities, available Monday through Saturday on day shift. Each team includes one deputy and one mental health clinician. JMET coverage is relevant for crisis support and referrals, while general medical concerns still route through LASD medical services and the medical command center when immediate help is needed.
Pitchess North Context
North's 2024 population is one reason the Pitchess complex cannot be described as one uniform jail. East had a very low annual average. South was below capacity. North and NCCF were above BSCC rated capacity. The research warns against saying the Los Angeles County jail system was simply under capacity without explaining that East Facility had a large effect on the total while North and NCCF were over their rated figures.
For older proof of incarceration or release, LASD's Records and Identification Bureau process is separate from the live IIC search. RIB can provide proof letters with name at arrest, booking number, charges, arrest date, and release information after valid ID and required process. Court disposition is different again. LASD says final court information must come from the court that handled the case, so Los Angeles Superior Court is the path after an arrest becomes a filed criminal case.
Note: Confirm the current facility because Pitchess North housing and visit status can change after classification.
